From La Savina to Es Pujols

January 15th, 2010 Alameda Abadilla No comments

Port de la Savina takes its name from the fact that this natural harbor used to be a busy port that exported sabina pine. It was also used to export salt. These days the port is pretty much dedicated to shipping tourists in and out, but it’s name recalls its heritage.

The ferries that call at La Savina are from mainland Spain and other Balearic islands. Ferries come many ports, including: Altea, Alicante, Denia, Sant Antoni, Santa Eularia, Palma, and Barcelona. There are also boats that go from La Savina to the neighboring island of Espalmador.

Exploring the restaurants and tapas bars of La Savina can be a most enjoyable pleasure, and it is a great way to spend your time. In between the Spanish sausages and paella you can also visit the many rental stores to get a bike or car, ready to explore the rest of the island. There is a tourist information office on the marina, so you should definitely pop in there too. The staff are very friendly.

After a while in Port de la Savina you can go on to explore the lagoon of Estany des Peix. It is connected to the sea via a very narrow mouth so only the smallest boats anchor here. Just across from Estany des Peix is the other saltwater lagoon of Estany Pudent, and beyond that are the salt pans. Sometimes the lagoons can get a bit smelly in which case the beaches of Es Trucadors offer an alternative.

The first destination for many people who arrive at La Savina is Es Pujols. This resort village has a great beach and warm shallow waters which are ideal for water sports. There is disabled access to the ocean and it is a very family friendly area. Whilst there are a lot of you tourists here it is not like the wild party atmosphere that you get in Ibiza.

In the evenings Es Pujols turns into a lively network of market stalls along the promenade of Avenida Miramar and into the high street of Passeig des Plameres. The locals, some of whom are aging hippies, sell a lot of hand made goods.

Trains In Seattle and Train Sets

December 20th, 2009 Owen Jones No comments

Boys and girls of all ages like trains and train sets. They have played a very important role in the history of this country and Seattle, Washington and the Northwest in specific. In fact, the roles of trains in this part of the country have in the past been so vital that there are a few museums dedicated to them. Trains were essential lifelines for the people here for many years. While their importance seems to be dwindling in today’s society, their significance throughout the history of our country remains.

If you really are a train enthusiast, then it should not be hard to talk you into stopping by Seattle’s Train Center before and after touring the museums devoted to trains and their importance in history. The Train Center offers a wide selection of model train parts and pieces that would make excellent additions to your train set or a great beginning for a train set for you or your kids.

After you’ve whetted your enthusiasm for trains and gotten your child all excited about them, it is time to take a walk back in time to the Northwest Railway Museum. There you can learn about railway history or even choose to take a ride on one of the trains that departs on several tours throughout the day. Most of the excursions are 65-75 minutes long and are a great extravagance for young and old alike. Perhaps the best thing about this museum is that its main objective is to educate the public about the important role that railroads had in the growth of this part of the country.

If you’re really interested in sharing your love for trains with the ones you love, you may consider taking a spin on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. This is a great way to not only get the experience of riding the rails but to take in some of the beautiful Washington scenery and have a gourmet meal in the process. During the months of November through to April up to two children may ride free with a paying adult.

There are certain limitations on the category of seating, but it is a splendid way to get the experience at a greatly reduced price. There are also special events such as Murder Mystery Trains and Magic and Illusion shows in addition to several holiday events as well. Be sure to check out what is going on while you are visiting Seattle and see if this is something that might interest you and your family.

If you are up for a not so short drive to Pasco (about three and a half hours from Seattle), you might find the Washington State Railroads Historical Society Museum well worth the trip. Be sure to remember that the museum is only open on Saturday and that the hours are limited so this is a journey you have to plan in advance. The best thing about this museum to me is the fact that there are lovely little stories, like the blackboard that recorded the first snowfall at the depot each year and others such as this.

It is the little stories that do not necessarily make history that do make long-lasting impressions and I am glad to see this particular story is being shared. Just bear in mind, when visiting any of these depots, museums, and train excursions that you definitely must bring your inner child with you in order to enjoy them as you should.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on a lot of topics, but is presently involved with train sets for kids. If you would like to know more about train sets for kids, please go over to our website for some great offers.

Learn French CD - Language Made Easy

November 19th, 2009 James Morley No comments

Zut Alors, apprendre vous Francais! Oh pardon my French: Of course, you can learn French. Learning any foreign is an important part of formal or informal education. In the first place, it is so practical, particularly if you travel for business or pleasure. Secondly, you may also have friends or relatives who speak a different language. Also, studies show that children that learn a second language are better students all around.

You may be thinking to yourself,Who can benefit from these Learn French CDs? A student can benefit by supplementing their classroom time with home study. Too much of class time is spent teaching to the middle of the pack. To break away from that middle, you can practice your French at home. An extra two to three hours a week will boost your grades and is much better spent than video games, texting, or watching MTV. They will also come in handy right before an exam. You can also use these CDs to review French before a trip abroad. Whether it is Paris, Montreal, or San Tropez, you will not be intimidated by the locals.

There are, of course, quite a few ways to learn the French language. The first is to move to a French speaking country. Not a bad way if you can afford it. The second is to learn French in school. Also not bad, but I have know about a few million people in their forties who would vouch that it just might not stick.

Language skills are hard enough to attain, but it is even worse to maintain them if you never have a chance to use them. Audio is great and has been used since the days of 78 RPM records. The key is repetition. This also has worked for tapes for decades. A Learn French CD combines the audio and the repetition, with visual aids and written techniques. You will learn French and, because it is on a CD you will learn it again when you need to.

Are You Unhappy At The Quality Of Your Holiday Photos?

November 15th, 2009 Peter Dawson No comments

You been there before. You go on holidays and take lots of photos of all those stunning sights and the wonderful places you went to. But you get home, you look at your photos and you’re always disappointed. They look lifeless and dull and ordinary.

Nothing that you wanted to convey in your photos is there. The sunset that was so stunning is gone. That extra special light that made that view look so special is missing. And you got that special smile on your girlfriends face, except that when you look at the photo you didn’t get that smile at all.

I don’t mean that you’ve made simple errors like putting your thumb over the lens or anything dumb like that, you’re too good a photographer for that and you’ve got a great camera. And you’ve spent some time learning how to use it. You’ve expected now that your photos should look good.

But you just seem to be disappointed every time you look at your photos. You don’t seem to be improving. You photos just don’t tell the story you want them to tell.

It’s often a simple step to go from taking ordinary photos to taking good photos you can be proud of. You don’t need to go to College for years, you just need to learn some simple basic processes that every photography professional knows.

Some simple stuff like how to compose a good photograph. How to make best use of light. How to take good photos of people, pets and the outdoors. How to use a tripod properly. How to make best use of your flash.

There’s no doubt that modern cameras are very good. They take good photos if you know how, but don’t expect to just point and shoot and get a great result. It’s still necessary to know how to drive one of those modern cameras to make best use of them. You need to know some photography basics. No camera will take great photos if you just point and shoot.

They would build the perfect point and shoot camera if they could, but to date you can’t buy one. There’s no way to take great photos without spending some time learning the basics of good photography.

It’s not that hard to learn, it takes a little practice, but if you enjoy your photography you’ll love practicing. It’s just a matter of learning some of the secrets of the pros, practicing them and applying them.

Then when you go on holidays next time you won’t need to feel embarrassed about your average boring photos. You’ll love showing them to your friends, they’ll probably be asking you for tips on how to take good photos themselves.

And you might even look at your holiday photos and find your girlfriend smiling.

I’ve written a book about how to take better photos, you can get it on my website.

Making Halloween Jewellery Is a Great Time for Family and Friends

October 29th, 2009 Marlene Zubber No comments

If you are at a loss as to what to do this Halloween, try making Halloween jewellery with your family. Halloween is a fun time of year, which means just about anything goes — decorate the outside of your house, make spooky costumes (or buy them), and go shopping for candy and other treats that will be given on Halloween night to the little trick-or-treaters that show up on your doorstep.

There are lots of other fun things to do, like filing for apples, going for hayrides, attending fall festivals, or going to haunted houses. However, those are not the only exciting things you can do. Try creating some fun Halloween jewellery with your family to accessorize those great costumes you are going to make or buy. It is something different and fun to do, right?

If you want to make Halloween jewellery with your family, there are lots of things you can do to make creative jewellery. If you’re just starting out, working with beads may be the best way to do it, since they are the easiest. Try making Halloween anklets, necklaces, bracelets, and so on, all with the use of beads.

What types of beads should you choose? There are the standard oval-shaped beads with halloween colors, such as orange and black. In late December to early October, you may be able to find beads that are specially shaped as Halloween characters, like pumpkins, cats, bats, or even witches!

To start, just gather together the beads you have got, or go shopping and choose the ones you want. It’s easy to make your own design using Halloween jewellery beads.

If youre looking for something a little more intricate, you do not just have to use beads. When you make Halloween jewellery with your family, you can also create small pendants and pins as well to wear. Check the craft aisle of your local department store to see what is offered there; it is likely that you will find a wide assortment of items that you can use to make specialized Halloween jewellery, especially as Halloween approaches. Simply place jewellery items on a piece of cardboard backing, glue a safety pin to the backing as well, and youve made a pin that can go on any Halloween costume.

Other things you can use to make Halloween jewelry with include miniature pumpkins, Halloween coins, or other items to make interesting and unique designs.

As you can see, if you are interested in making Halloween jewellery as a family, there are many creative ways to do so. All it takes is a little research and some creativity!
