From La Savina to Es Pujols

January 15th, 2010 Alameda Abadilla No comments

Port de la Savina takes its name from the fact that this natural harbor used to be a busy port that exported sabina pine. It was also used to export salt. These days the port is pretty much dedicated to shipping tourists in and out, but it’s name recalls its heritage.

The ferries that call at La Savina are from mainland Spain and other Balearic islands. Ferries come many ports, including: Altea, Alicante, Denia, Sant Antoni, Santa Eularia, Palma, and Barcelona. There are also boats that go from La Savina to the neighboring island of Espalmador.

Exploring the restaurants and tapas bars of La Savina can be a most enjoyable pleasure, and it is a great way to spend your time. In between the Spanish sausages and paella you can also visit the many rental stores to get a bike or car, ready to explore the rest of the island. There is a tourist information office on the marina, so you should definitely pop in there too. The staff are very friendly.

After a while in Port de la Savina you can go on to explore the lagoon of Estany des Peix. It is connected to the sea via a very narrow mouth so only the smallest boats anchor here. Just across from Estany des Peix is the other saltwater lagoon of Estany Pudent, and beyond that are the salt pans. Sometimes the lagoons can get a bit smelly in which case the beaches of Es Trucadors offer an alternative.

The first destination for many people who arrive at La Savina is Es Pujols. This resort village has a great beach and warm shallow waters which are ideal for water sports. There is disabled access to the ocean and it is a very family friendly area. Whilst there are a lot of you tourists here it is not like the wild party atmosphere that you get in Ibiza.

In the evenings Es Pujols turns into a lively network of market stalls along the promenade of Avenida Miramar and into the high street of Passeig des Plameres. The locals, some of whom are aging hippies, sell a lot of hand made goods.

If you are like me then at first you might not have wanted to admit that you had wide feet. I didn’t even enjoy to go shoe shopping with my friends since they had these small size 4 narrow shoes and I would whisper that I required a size 9 wide or I would try to ram my foot into something smaller just to fit in. Yeah, this was not the finest idea.

Reason #1 - Hammertoes

Have you ever seen somebody wearing flip flops and their toes were warped around to the side or they seemed to curl under? This condition is generally known as the hammertoe. You can develop this by either wearing shoes that are too tiny or too narrow for you.

Reason #2 - Bad Circulation

If you wear shoes that are too little for your feet, you can truly cause yourself to have bad circulation. If you know something at all about reflexology then you of course know that your feet are connected to all parts of your body. You will be healthier if you are kind to your feet.

Reason #3 - Corns

There are loads of ladies that have gotten corns on the side of their feet from wearing too narrow of a shoe. It more often than not shows up on your petite toe and it is not at all attractive.

Mandarin New Year Animal Symbolism

Want to know what animal you are? Find out the historical origins of the Chinese New Year animals.

The occasion of Chinese New Year is without a doubt considered to be the most important event in the Chinese lunar calendar. The traditional celebrations have been going on for years and the festive spirit is pretty much alive even today. The unique characteristic of the Chinese New Year is however the twelve year cycle that associates the coming of the year with an animal symbol.

Every twelfth year of the Chinese lunar calendar, the animal symbol repeats. Their current standing shows that next year will be the year of the Ox. The ancient philosophers of China studied on the actions of the animals in the calendar and concluded in deriving a similarity between animal personality traits and human character.

Thereby if any person is born on the year of a certain animal he is supposed to bear resemblance to the nature of the animal of that particular year. Any individual who has taken birth in the year of the ox is bound to have good organizational skills and they are considerably dependable and loyal. Also such people are patient and strong.

The concept of the twelve year cycle with the animals assigned to each year is derived from the Buddhist dharma. Legend has it that it was Buddha himself who summoned all these animals before he descended down to earth. There was a competition to be held amongst these animals where the first one to reach the finishing line would be assigned to the first year.

When the race began, the competition was tough. The act of betrayal was seen in the rat who made a deal with the cat but eventually didn’t keep his word. All along the race it looked like the ox would win as he meanderedthrough the crowd but little did he know that the rat was riding on his back all through the race and just when the ox was about to finish the race first, the rat leaped off his back and claimed the first position.

The first year of the twelve year cycle as a resultof the race was the year of the rat as he managed to finish the race in first position. This year is followed by the year of the ox as the rightly deserving animal came second unfortunately. Then the ox is followed by the rest of the animals on the basis of the position they finished the race in. the Last in the race was the pig!

If you are wondering why just twelve animals came to Buddha and why specifically these animals then keep wondering because you will find no answers to these questions! The fact of the matter is that this is an ancient tradition which has been kept alive up till today and is deeply embedded in the Chinese culture. As a token of appreciation for their coming Buddha apparently assigned a year to each of the animals and that’s the way the legend has it.

Chinese new year songs are a fun activity enjoyed by young and old alike. If youwant further info about Chinese new year animal signs click on the links herein.
